Eliminating Food Waste One Community at a Time.

In light of the issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we specifically wanted to help those affected by food insecurity. As a result of the shelter-in-place order, which encourages people to stay home to minimize the spread of the virus, food banks are struggling with food shortages while food producers are experiencing the opposite. In order to mitigate this problem, we created Oasis, an online platform in which food producers and food banks can connect with one another to meet their needs. Although we primarily developed Oasis as a response to COVID-19, we believe that this site is a valuable tool that can be utilized to combat food insecurity even after the pandemic.

BERKELEY STUDENT

FOOD COLLECTIVE

The Berkeley Student Food Collective (BSFC) is a non-profit grocery store run solely by volunteers dedicated to providing fresh, local, healthy, environmentally sustainable, and ethically produced food at affordable prices to Berkeley’s campus and greater community. Oasis commends BSFC for keeping money in the Bay Area community, and teaching students business and food systems infrastructures. Whether working to combat food insecurity with their “Pay It Forward” vouchers, or reducing food waste by preparing meals with items that otherwise would not have sold, we thank you BFSC!
